Projects completed during this period were;
Kerr Power House: Revision and enlargement of Montana Power Company's
power house near Poison, Montana, required doubling the size of the
original building, installation of a second 78, 000 H.P. turbine and generator,
and driving of 1200 feet of horizontal and inclined tunnel 24 feet in diameter.
Access was from the side of the existing structure opposite to the new
addition, and the $880,000 contract stipulated no interruption of service
from the existing facility.
Kerr Penstock Tunnel: Some 1200 feet of 24 ft. tunnel for an addition to an
existing power house at Poison, Montana, had to be driven with extreme
care to avoid damaging an adjacent penstock tunnel then in use. The tunnel
was excavated, lined with concrete, tested and put into operation in January,
1949, without interruption of service of the existing facilities. Cost of the
project was included in the above.
A Thermal power plant in Richmond, California for the Standard Oil Company
of California in the amount of $190,000.
A haulage tunnel in Utah for the Kennecott Copper Corporation in the amount
of $623,000.
Industrial Highway in Ukiah, California in the amount of $4,130,000 for
the Masonite Corporation.
The grading for a copper refinery in Utah for the Kennecott Copper
Corporation in the amount of $607,000.
An oil pipeline in Wyoming for the General Petroleum Corporation in the
amount of $317,000.
Pittsburg Coal Company: Utah Construction Company stripped overburden,
mined, transported, sized and loaded into railroad cars more than 3,200,000
tons of high grade coal in the period from 1943 to 1949. Stripping the 70 foot
deep overburden required disposal of more than 28,000,000 cubic yards of
earth and rock.
synthetic Detergent Plant: Utah Construction Company directed all and per-
formed much of the intricate construction and installation of this Colgate-
Palmolive -Peet Company plant in Berkeley, California, completed in 1949
for $131,000.
