It must have been early in the 1890's -could have been late 1880's the fir operation was began.
Apparently it began Haines spur west of Hood River - the mill to the south in western hills of Hood River valley. A flume carried the lumber to Haines spur. Some little later the mill operated by Samuel Eccles at Chinoweth. The Viento planner was the shipping point - Oregon across the Columbia from Chinoweth.
